Blackboard Quick Tip: Set Course Duration

By default, Blackboard courses are only open between their first and final meeting dates. But instructors may want to change that to allow students to see final grades and feedback. Here’s how.

Go into your course’s control panel and then to “properties” under customization.

properties-menuScroll down to the “set course duration” area. You can change the end date here to allow for extended student access to the course. I recommend that you allow access through the date that grades are due. (You’ll report final grades in MyWay.)

After the course end date, the link into the course will disappear from the students’ My Courses list, but instructors will still see it (and that it’s unavailable to students) for a year. Students are still on the roster, but they can’t get into the course; only instructors can.

Change the course end dates to allow students to see their final grades in Blackboard.

Note: For fall 2014, the default for online courses is to run from 9/2/14 to 11/17/14. Grades are due by no later than 7 a.m. 11/20.
