By default, the course control panel (the area below the student-accessible course menu) includes two links — “Assignments” and “Tests” — under the Grade Center > Full Grade Center. Ever wonder what those are for?
Those links open everything in your gradebook with the corresponding category. Pretty smart, right? Well, Blackboard seems to think so, at least, because the feature is part of something called Smart Views.
You can change which, if any, column categories appear in smart view by going to Manage > Smart Views in the FGC.
From the editor, you can modify which views show in your control panel by selecting or de-selecting the “Add as Favorite” stars. You can also delete smart views all together or create new, custom ones.
That’s where it gets exciting — there’s some serious room for creativity in creating new custom smart views. You could build out grade center shortcuts by custom building queries based on users, specific activities (not just categories, which are really just types of activities) or even performance.
