You may want to add profile information to your MCC Blackboard account, including a photo that will appear next to your name in your courses.
This photo — and any other profile information you chose to share — is visible by other MCC Blackboard users via the My Learning Network feature, and it also appears next to your name on your discussion posts. But this information does not appear outside of MCC’s Blackboard site.
Adding profile information is totally optional. It does require you to agree to terms of service set by an outside company (not MCC), so, if you do not agree, you can leave this information blank. But if you do agree to the terms and would like to add a profile, here’s how to do it.
How to Add a MyEdu Profile in Blackboard
First, access the My Blackboard area by clicking your name in the upper right corner of the screen. Then click on the now-blank “profile picture” at the top. This will take you to a new screen where you can edit your Blackboard profile.
You will be asked to look through the Blackboard Social terms of service. The Metropolitan Community College policy statement says that any MCC Blackboard user can see the information you share unless you hide your profile. We’ll go over how to hide your profile later in this post.
If you accept the terms and would like to continue the process, click agree.
You’ll then be asked to submit an email address. This email address can be your MCC student address, if you wish, but it also can be a different address, perhaps one that you will continue to use even after you’ve completed your studies.
The next screen will ask you if you already have a MyEdu account. If you do have an account, perhaps set up at another Blackboard institution, you can click on that option and fill in your username and password for that account. If you do not already have an account, click on that option and follow the prompts to set one up.
The MyEdu account is separate from, and not managed by, MCC. This is why you can use a different email address to fill in your profile, but you will still need to check your MCC student email because that is how the college, and your instructors, will communicate with you.
MyEdu is a website owned by Blackboard that allows users to build profiles that show their education status, skills, grades and projects. It also includes features for searching for internships, planning class schedules and reviewing instructors.
Information you include in your profile is separate from your Blackboard personal information, which is imported from your registration details. You can view your personal information from the Global Navigation (click on your name, then on settings, then “Personal Information”), but you cannot change it.
Back to setting up a profile. If you chose to set up a MyEdu account, you’ll be asked to provide your name and your college. To add MCC to your profile, search for Metropolitan Community College and click on “Metropolitan Community College Area (NE).”
After you click done on the getting started screen, the next step is to choose a privacy level. MCC’s Blackboard administrators have turned off the option to make your MyEdu profile public, but you can choose to share it with other MCC users by clicking My Institution. You can also select “hidden” here, which will allow you to set up a profile that only you see. Check the MyEdu website for more information about its privacy policies and other services.
Once you’ve made your selection and clicked done, you’ll be taken to your profile. Here, you can add information about yourself in “tiles” and add a photo, if you like. Remember, if you choose My Institution, all MCC users can see this information. You can change this setting any time by accessing your profile and then clicking on Settings & Privacy. (Also click here if you’d like to delete your profile.)
You can see other MCC Blackboard users’ profiles via the “people” tool in My Blackboard. Access it by clicking on the smiley face icon at the bottom of the menu.
Under “people,” you can see “My Learning Network,” a collection of other MCC Blackboard users. We’ve turned off the option to contact others via this tool (some colleges may use that via Blackboard spaces; we chose not to enable that), but some people may have added contact information to their bios.
