Upcoming Workshops: Fall Blackboard Training

Each workshop in this series will focus on a different aspect of course design and delivery in Blackboard. IDS will present an overview of the relevant Blackboard features and then work collaboratively with each participant. Computers available but BYOD if you can.

Blackboard Grade Center

IDS will help you configure the grade center according to best practices and the needs of each course. Learn how to:

  • Add, delete and rearrange columns
  • Hide columns from students and/or instructors
  • Use categories or not
  • Set up Total Points and other calculated columns
  • Enter grades/provide feedback
  • Delete or ignore multiple attempts
  • Change the format of grades
  • Change point values of tests

Blackboard Tests, Surveys & Pools

IDS will review options and best practices for creating and offering tests in Blackboard. Learn how to:

  • Create new questions from over a dozen question types
  • Randomize questions using sets or pools
  • Import/Export tests
  • Configure availability
  • Set Review options
  • Enter grades/provide feedback
  • Offer surveys and review the results

Blackboard Due Dates, Availability & Adaptive Release

IDS will review options and best practices for making course content available to students.  You will learn how to:

  • Set availability for different types of content
  • Avoid conflicting availability settings
  • Use Adaptive Release to make content available based on a variety of criteria

First-Time Blackboard User Series

Come learn (or brush up on) the Blackboard basics in preparation for the winter quarter. IDS will have two-part sessions (attend both in the series for the full experience) from 2 to 4 p.m. Fridays in the sandbox (FOC 17). Computers provided, but BYOD if you can.

Preparing for the upcoming quarter in Blackboard

IDS will review the steps and best practices for preparing a Blackboard course for a new quarter.  Learn how to:

  • Copy content from one course to another
  • Configure the Course Menu
  • Adjust availability dates and due dates
  • Upload a new Syllabus
  • Add or modify content

IDS will review the various reports available in a Blackboard course.  Learn how to:

  • Be aware of at-risk students with the Retention Center
  • Run a variety of reports to review student activity
  • Find relevant data to inform census date drops
  • Export grades and reports as PDFs

How to register for training sessions:

Staff/Faculty may use the term+course number to register, or they may use just the synonym.

  1. Log in to MyWay
  2. Place cursor over Home in the upper left corner, then choose Student
  3. Click on the My Services tab on the left side of the page
  4. Click My Services for Students
  5. Click Registration
  6. Click on Express Registration
  7. On the Educational Goals screen, just click SUBMIT
  8. On the “Express Registration” screen, enter the SYNONYM # for each course you want to take, then click SUBMIT
  9. On the “Register and Drop Sections” screen, click the arrow next to the empty box under Actions, and then choose RG-Register for each class that you want to register for.  Click SUBMIT, and you will see the courses you are registered for in the Registration Results box at the bottom of the page.

To enroll by phone, call ext. 8518 from campus or 402-457-5231 or 1-800-228-9553 from off campus.  Please cancel if you are not able to attend sessions you have registered for.
