Blackboard Quick Tip: How to Do Extra Credit

Setting up and grading extra credit is very easy (and more intuitive than in ANGEL, if you ask me), but there’s a key difference from “the old ANGEL ways” that instructors will need to be aware of.

When working with Grade Center Columns (“gradebook assignments” in ANGEL), you may notice that there’s not an extra credit option to select like there was in ANGEL. To set up a column as an extra credit opportunity, simply make the points possible equal to zero. That’s it!

Simply make an extra credit assignment/category/column worth 0 points. No need to select any extra credit options.

Blackboard will allow zero-point assignments, unlike ANGEL. When it comes time to apply extra credit points, you can manually enter a score in the Full Grade Center. A student achieving 0 will not be “punished” in the total score, but a student with extra points will get the “bonus.”
