Known ANGEL Bug: Discussion Boards Fail to Load

If a discussion board’s settings include a default to nested view (instead of threaded view), the full discussion may not be visible for Firefox and Chrome users.

It’s a rare issue, but it’s something to be aware of. So far, it seems to be happening only on boards in which individual posts are pretty long, causing a “Retrieving posts…” error to pop up in Firefox and Chrome. (We tested with the latest versions and with IE 11 in compatibility mode, which did not pull the error.)

Post-retrieving error

“Retrieving posts…” always comes up when a browser loads an ANGEL discussion, but in the bug, it never goes away.

We found that changing the view setting fixed the problem. Under the discussion’s Interaction tab (make sure you can see the advanced settings), change the drop-down menu for “Discussion Views” to threaded view. You can allow users to switch between views if the discussion has short posts and you like that flexibility, but to keep compatibility across browsers, you may want to uncheck the switch option.
